Rich Mizak is an established corporate turnaround and restructuring professional with over 20 years of diverse experience spanning a wide range of sectors, including healthcare and not-for-profit.
His depth of expertise comprises C-suite and interim management (including tenure as CEO, CFO and COO), strategic planning, change management, integrations / carve-outs, project management, benchmarking and cost-reduction, business-line performance analysis, financial modeling, as well as the preparation of numerous business, strategic, and valuation plans.
Rich has previously operated as CEO of a Florida based transportation company, interim CFO of a multi-channel vitamin company, and Portfolio Manager for six middle-market companies with combined revenues of ~$1 billion.
In addition he worked on >58 projects as a restructuring and turnaround consultant during his tenure at Alvarez & Marsal (10 years), Zolfo Cooper (5 years) and Ernst & Young (3 years). Clients included leading distressed investors and companies, private equity funds, and alternative investment managers, across multiple industries.
• Acute care hospital group -Led the chapter 11 and business plan components to disaggregate five locations in four US states into four stand-alone entities and one wind-down / closure, and greatly limited board and lender exposure.
• Mental health housing and care services –Managed the carve out of a not-for-profit with 100+ locations across six US states, and establishment of a standalone for-profit company.
• Vitamin / supplement manufacturer -Interim CFO of $100+ million multi-channel manufacturer. Achieved an 18% reduction in labor costs by engaging senior management across the company in a plan to reduce costs.
• Long-term acute care hospitals –Managed a complex program of multiple concurrent performance improvement initiatives, financial and cash forecasting, and the successful completion of bankruptcy §363 sale process for two at-risk LTACHs.
• Real estate –Managed a highly complex 121-debtor chapter 11 bankruptcy for a $1.5 billion real estate development company with operations in seven states, through effective stakeholder and project management and a keen understanding of the restructuring process.
